MEADE LX200 GPS 16" ACF
The Observatory currently owns a Meade LX50 10" telescope with Magellan II controller.
Whilst this is an excellent telescope it is now 15 years old and the technology has vastly improved for telescope computer control.
The purchase of a new Meade LX200 GPS 16"ACF will open up a whole new universe to the students and teachers at the school as well as the general public.
Faint Galaxies, Nebulae and the Planets will become a sight to behold with a light gathering power increase of 200% over the current 10" telescope.
With full computer control capability and synchronised Dome control this new telescope will allow teachers and students with minimal knowledge of Astronomy to locate and view objects. Integrated with new smart devices this telescope can be controlled from a tablet or phone running an Astronomy software program.
This makes it fully interactive for students and teachers and combined with a CCD camera this new telescope is at a research grade instrument.
