Open Nights
Open Nights 2010 After last year’s huge effort with Open Nights for the International Year of Astronomy 2009, we have looked at making the most of our monthly Open Nights for 2010. This year will take on a new format for those interested in
viewing our night sky. Learn about our winter sky, constellations, and spectacular deep
sky objects in it. Our visitors will receive a free Observers Handbook and each month there are Object Stamps for the celestial objects observed. This is a great way for kids (of all ages!) to get involved in Astronomy. Completed Handbooks with all Object Stamps collected, will go into the draw for a prize at the end of the season. You will also receive a Certificate of Completion from our Observatory to show you have completed your collection. 2010 Open Nights programme (7.30 – 10.00 p.m.) 23 April, 14 May, 11 June, 16 July, 6 August, 10 September. These are Friday nights. Postponement night is the following Saturday, and if both nights are clouded out, we will try again the Friday and Saturday in the week after. See the Events Calendar for details. Please check on the viewing conditions before travelling to Oxford if you come from far. If unsure, call James at 021 390989. Advance bookings are not necessary. Your Gold Coin Donation on the Open Nights helps the Observatory in providing educational resources on Astronomy. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * *
